Method 1: The Classic ‘Restart your PC’

Method 2: Log Out and Restart Discord

If the mic was working fine with the same internet and microphone and has just started acting up then this method might solve it for you. Here’s how to log out from Discord:

Step 1: Click on the wheel icon to open “User Settings“. The wheel icon can be found on the lower left-hand corner next to your profile name.

Step 1: Close Discord if you have it open.

Step 1: Open up Voice & Video settings in Discord. The steps to do so are the same as mentioned in the previous method (Step 1 to step 3)

Step 2: Now, open the Input Device drop-down menu and select your Microphone/headset from the menu.

You could also perform a Mic Check to ensure that the mic is working properly. Under Mic Test, you should see a button that reads Let’s Check, click on it and then speak into the microphone. The meter will activate as Discord starts to pick up your voice.

Method 6: Change Input Sensitivity

Another reason why you might be facing the Discord mic not working error is that the Automatic Input Sensitivity feature in the Discord’s settings might be disabled. Enabling the feature again may solve your problem.

Step 2: Select “Voice & Video” under App Settings.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the Automatic Input Sensitivity toggle and toggle it on. Now speak into your microphone and make sure the bar below it lights up in green.

Method 7: Switch to Push To Talk

Another quick fix is to switch between the Input Methods. The default input method is Voice Activity. Head back into the Voice & Video settings and change input mode to Push to Talk. Check if the error still persists. If yes, switching back to the default input method i.e Voice Activity should solve it.

Exclusive Mode allows certain applications to have complete control over the connected Audio devices. When this feature is enabled, Discord has been known to have some audio issues. So try disabling Exclusive Mode to get the mic functionality back.
