1. Adblock Plus (ABP)
Adblock Plus is an open-source program that can be installed by users through an APK file. You cannot install any of the ad-blocking apps from Google Play Store as Google has removed these apps from the Play Store. So, you will require its APK file to operate it on your device.
First, you have to follow a few steps to set your Android device for installing an application from an unknown source, here’s how you can do so:
- Head to Settings on your Android device.
- Now, click on the “Apps & notifications” or “Application” option on your phone.

In this section, we will be installing the Adblock Plus on our Android device. Follow the below-given steps for downloading this ad-blocker:
- First of all, open Google Chrome on your device or any browser that you have pre-installed and then download Adblock Plus from here.
- Now, your Android device will receive a specific APK file once the process of download is completed.
- And then, you have to look for that APK file in your device, they are usually found in Application Manager, after you get that file, just click on it and then select “Install”. This will start installing the ad-blocker to your device.
- As soon as the installing process ends, launch the Adblock Plus, it will ask for user permission of your device, allow it and that is it you can now start using this application.

2. AdAway
Another ad-blocker that will definitely help you to block ads in apps is AdAway. It is one of the longest running open-source ad blocker for Android that uses the hosts file. However, you cannot install it from Google Play Store as it was removed by Google due to a violation of section 4.4 of a certain agreement. But similar to how we installed Adblock Plus, we can install AdAway as well through the APK file.
First of all, you need to ensure that your phone is completely set for allowing installation from unknown sources, we have to follow the same steps as we did in Adblock Plus:
- Head to Settings on your Android device.
- Now, click on the “Apps & notifications” or “Application” option on your phone.
